Chapter 40:.

“Miss White, your salary needs to be docked, doesn’t it?” Carole was aggressive.

Helen spoke in a businesslike tone, “According to the company system, yes.”

“I had not originally intended to make a scene, as this is a minor matter, but you are clearly late and insistent on saying that you have taken a leave of absence. The personality of a person who tells such lies must be…”

“She has taken a leave of absence,” as Carole was triumphantly criticizing that Dolores’ personality was bad, a low voice rang out and interrupted her.

Carole froze for a moment, thinking she might have misheard her.

Would Mr. Nelson personally handle such a matter?

Evidently, it wasn’t possible.

“The person who lies and is late is bound to have a bad character. Such a person should not be allowed to remain with the company.”

“I accepted your request to ask for a leave of absence, need I mention it again?” Matthew’s tone became aggravated. He said it slowly and heavily, apparently making the others feel oppressively submissive.

This time Carole could hear clearly. Once it might have been a hallucination, but this was already the second time she’d heard it, so there was no way it was a hallucination.

It seemed too unbelievable to her.

This kind of matter should be handled by Miss White, but why was the boss handling it personally?

What was the relationship between this woman and Mr. Nelson?

“Well, you two go do your jobs.” Helen pretended to be tired of the situation.

But in reality she was anxious and panicked.

Dolores unintentionally glanced at Helen’s expression as she pretended to be calm.

A thought flashed through her mind. She wanted to prove Coral’s words that Matthew did not love Helen and that there was another reason for him to be with her.

The reason was related to going to Country A.

At first, I just wanted to take it as a coincidence.

However, the words spoken today by Coral and Sampson made him take them seriously.

Her baby needed a father.

Helen followed Matthew to the office. After reporting the entire itinerary, she closed the diary list and asked timidly, “Is it that you are going to ask Miss Flores to attend tonight’s banquet with you?”

Matthew looked a little tired as he closed his eyes. After being silent for a few seconds, “You will go with me.”

Helen let out a sigh of relief, “I’ll go out now and do my job then.”

After closing the door, Helen turned and saw that Dolores was standing behind her. Helen’s pacing stopped.

“Miss White, I have something to ask you, can I talk to you?” asked Dolores.

Helen was surprised that Dolores took the initiative to seek her out.

She would like to hear what she wanted to tell her, “Sure, let’s go to the cafe downstairs.”

They took the elevator and arrived at the coffee shop on the second floor.

They found a quiet seat and sat down.

They both didn’t utter a word. Dolores said something only after the coffee had been served for a while, “Miss White seems to have a great deal of animosity toward me.”

“Matthew and I are a couple. We are bound to be separated. If Miss Flowers were to put herself in my place, what would you do?” asked Helen.

Dolores pinched the spoon and gently stirred the coffee in the cup and sensed that Helen was really good at telling a flawless story.

“It’s clear that Mr. Nelson and I are just keeping the marriage contract. It won’t last long, but Miss White seems to be very anxious to stop it and she’s also very afraid of me.” He slowly raised his eyes.

“Why do you say that?” Helen smiled and took a sip of coffee.

“I know. Spreading the news of my pregnancy where I live, asking people to speak ill of me and encouraging my mother, I think Miss White knows well the reason why she did all those things.” Helen knew how to dissemble well, but Dolores was even better than her. It was as if she had everything under control in her hands.

“I can’t understand what Miss Flores meant. What is happening is that I am dissatisfied with the marriage between you and Matthew. If Miss Flores wants to complain to Matthew, go ahead, I don’t mind. Matthew will understand me, I’m just a woman, a woman in love, a woman whose original position was taken by another. It’s understandable that I would do something out of the ordinary.” He smiled faintly and looked at Dolores, “Whereas Miss Flores’ action of taking the initiative to invite me for a chat shows that she seems to be unstable.”

Dolores smiled without saying anything. Her inscrutable look made Helen’s hair stand on end.

“I heard that Miss White had followed Mr. Nelson for a long time, but he did not fall in love with Miss White. The reason he suddenly gave Miss White the status of being his bride was because…” Dolores purposely paused to watch Helen’s face.

Predictably, her expression changed. Although she was trying to restrain herself, Dolores could tell the change.

“Why?” Helen was not as calm as before.

Dolores purposely said something and left out the rest to make sure Helen didn’t know how much she knew. She deliberately left Helen in suspense.

“Matthew and I love each other sincerely. So naturally there are people who are unhappy and green with envy at the sight of him, and they gossip about it. If Miss Flores wants to take it seriously, I can’t do anything either.” Helen stood up as she said, “There’s still half a month to go. The position that belongs to me will always belong to me.”

She glanced at Dolores and left.

“How does Miss White know I’m two months pregnant?” Dolores stood up too.

“I had told her, I guessed.”

Dolores stepped closer, “My belly is not obvious enough for it to be recognized that I am pregnant. It is impossible to determine how long I have been pregnant just by looking at it, but Miss White could guess immediately. I guess even women who are experienced in giving birth to a child won’t have the same ability as Miss White, will they?”

“Maybe it’s a coincidence? I could guess because I’m lucky. Anything can happen in this world, maybe I really do have this kind of talent?” As Helen finished speaking, she headed for the elevator.

The elevator door slowly closed. There, Dolores and Helen stared at each other.

Although Helen showed no fault in her words, she knew that Dolores must have discovered something.

Otherwise, Dolores wouldn’t come looking for her and feel her out today.

Helen didn’t know how much Dolores knew.

The strength in Dolores’ body gave out the moment the elevator door closed completely.

Many signs indicated that her assumption might be true.

If it really was Matthew, why did the woman who introduced her to the business that day give her money?

But she had no clue how to find out.

After work, she went home as usual.

“You came back alone?” Coral peered in the direction behind Dolores.

Dolores nodded with slight disappointment. As she left work, she saw Helen, who was dressed exquisitely, get into her car.

She was no longer as sure of her assumption as before. Perhaps Matthew really loved Helen sincerely?

The reason he didn’t love her before was that he didn’t realize it himself.

She was confused.

“Why didn’t you go back to Young Master?” Two people should spend more time together to strengthen the bond.

“He went out with Miss White.” Dolores just felt disheartened. After having the guess, her attitude toward Matthew had changed.

Coral sighed, “You have to try harder.”

Dolores smiled grimly. Not wanting to talk about this subject, she purposely said, “I’m a little tired, I want to take a nap.”

Coral could tell she was evidently not in a good mood, “Go rest, I’ll call you when dinner is ready.”

Dolores nodded and went to the bedroom.

She lay down on the bed and felt exhausted. She slowly closed her eyes and really wanted to sleep for a while. As she was groggy and about to fall asleep, her phone rang.

She pulled out the phone and answered the call.

“Lola, can you do me a favor?”

This voice…

Dolores instantly lost all her drowsiness. She sat up, “Go ahead, tell me.”

“I have to attend an event, so I need you to come with me.”

After a few seconds of silence, Dolores replied, “Okay.”

“Send me your location, I’ll come find you.”
