Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1354

Chapter 1354

"Mister Luther?"

Darius kept looking at his computer screen. Pearl tapped on his head lightly. "Time for bed, okay?"

Darius nodded quietly. Just as he was about to leave the room, he turned around and asked, "Can I skip school tomorrow?"

"Do you want me to go instead?" Pearl replied, forcing a smile and holding up her hand as if to stop him from saying more.

Darius quickly retreated to his room.noveldrama

Once Darius was settled for bed, Pearl checked her phone and found a message from Luther.

[Where are you? I'm at the restaurant.]

She realized she had forgotten to tell Luther that she was already home. Unsure what to text back, she was interrupted by a call from Luther.

He was probably worried because she hadn't responded. After a slight pause, she answered. "Where are you?" Luther sounded concerned, his voice nearly drowned out by background noise. "I'm sorry, I'm already at home. I forgot to let you know," Pearl explained, feeling guilty. "That's okay. I'm just relieved you're safe. I'll head home now. Try to get some sleep. Good night." "Good night," she replied, and the call ended.

Pearl thought about Luther. She couldn't see him as a scheming person, and despite everything, he was always caring. He hadn't changed at all in the four years she'd known him.

Pearl thought she wouldn't see Richard for a while. To her surprise, he was waiting at her doorstep when she went to drive Darius to kindergarten.

Richard didn't knock; he just sat there. Pearl jumped when she saw him.

"What are you doing here, Richard?"

Richard stood up, stretching his legs. "Let me drive you to work."

"How did you find out where I live? Were you stalking me?" Pearl asked, her tone wary.

Richard looked tired. "No, I wasn't stalking you. I just have my ways to find out things," he replied quickly.

Pearl was speechless. It felt too much like stalking.

Darius peeked out from behind Pearl. He remembered telling Richard about their secret deal the previous night. He couldn't even look Richard in the eye, overwhelmed with guilt.

Pearl managed a nervous but polite smile. "I really don't need your help, okay?"

"No, you need me," Richard insisted.

"I don't, really."

"Yes, you do."
