Unforgettable love

Chapter 31

Chapter 31:.

The nature of Helen and Matthew’s relationship was widely known in the company.

Helen had been sending signals about their relationship here and there, but Matthew never openly objected or denied the rumors. Therefore, others would have thought that he had admitted to the rumors.

At this point, Helen was not only his secretary, but she could also be the young lady in the Nelson Family. It was only natural that the other employees would realize the importance of this fact and try to suck up to her in the company. This made her feel entitled and proud.

When Matthew was busy with work in his office, someone immediately rushed up to her and whispered, “Miss White, what did you have for lunch with Mr. Nelson just now? We are very envious of you.”

Helen cast a sidelong glance at Dolores, who was in the corner of the office, and smiled, “Not much. We’ve had the usual vegetables, crispy pigeon meat, chicken, some shrimp…”

“Wow, this is your favorite food.” Sheryl continued to compliment Helen, “Mr. Nelson has been very attentive to you.”

Helen replied with a slight smile as she nonchalantly flaunted her freshly done nails. Her silence was interpreted by the others as an admission of their relationship.

Sheryl stepped even closer, “Miss White, when are you going to marry Mr. Nelson?”.

Helen’s movements stopped slightly as her thoughts began to race on the notion of marriage. If it hadn’t been for Dolores, she would have been the young lady of the Nelson family by now.

It was all because of Dolores, who had stood in her way.

Since she still had to maintain her good image in front of Matthew, she could not do Dolores any harm in public. However, she could still inflict pain on herself through the hands of others. She could still manipulate others to make Dolores’ life in the company more difficult.

She flashed a friendly smile, “Sheryl.”

“Miss White, yes?” Sheryl had a flattering expression.

“Our new recruit taking over the translation work is really ignorant of the ways of the company.” Helen pretended to be slightly frustrated as she grumbled.

“Have you offended her in any way?”

“Not exactly, but that’s okay. Now you should get back to work.” Helen purposely ended the conversation without answering him directly. She was sure Sheryl would have understood what she meant.

Sheryl glanced at Dolores and turned a thought over in her mind. Was this recruit unaware of Helen’s relationship with Mr. Nelson? Did she offend Helen because of it?

That must be it. Since she was new to the company, she could have innocently gone against Helen, judging that she did not yet know the workings of the company.

As she returned to her seat, she thought about finding an opportunity to teach Dolores a lesson soon.

After finishing her lunch, Dolores got up and disposed of the food containers.

She then headed to the tea area to pour herself some tea.

Sheryl saw her movements and decided to take the opportunity to reprimand her. She followed Dolores to the tea area.

She stood behind Dolores and just as Dolores turned around with the cup full of tea, she purposely stepped forward and caused Dolores to bump into her, seeing that Dolores could not know that there was someone behind her. The tea in her cup spilled all over Sheryl’s skirt as a result.

“Don’t you know how to walk properly?” Sheryl immediately jumped in to scold.

Dolores immediately apologized as it was the tea from her cup that spilled on the others, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose.”

“If you didn’t do it on purpose, then why is my skirt wet now?”

Dolores was stunned for a moment. She hadn’t expected Sheryl to retort so aggressively.noveldrama

“I’ve already apologized. It really was an accident.” Dolores continued to explain patiently.

“What’s the use of apologizing? If I slap you across the cheeks and apologize, does that mean you won’t pursue this matter any further?” Sheryl wasn’t planning to let her off the hook just yet. She was making things difficult for Dolores.

Dolores couldn’t help but frown. Wasn’t this woman being too forceful with her explanation?

How could she compare being slapped with being spilled with some tea? They were two totally different things.

“What do you want?” Dolores’ voice dropped a little.

Since Sheryl wasn’t going to accept her apology, she had no choice but to find another way to resolve this.

Sheryl poured herself a cup of water and looked at Dolores, “Since you’ve spilled water on me, I’ll consider things even if you let me give it back to you.”

Dolores stared incredulously at the cup of steaming hot water in her hands. She couldn’t believe what she was being told. It was obvious that Sheryl was trying to destroy her.

She would definitely suffer burns if that cup of hot water was poured over her body.

The cup of tea she had just had was lukewarm, at best, as she was in a hurry to finish her drink. Although some of the contents had spilled onto Sheryl’s skirt, it would do her no harm. Her skirt was slightly wet.

Dolores held out her palm and glared at Sheryl, “How is that considered being on equal footing? If you burn me with hot water, you’ll have to take responsibility for me!”.

Sheryl tried to analyze the consequence of pouring that cup of hot water on Dolores.

The hot water was no longer steaming after some time, so it would not burn Dolores badly. At most, she would only suffer some minor burns.

Since she intended to gain Helen’s trust, Sheryl thought she should at least put some effort into this. She let out a cold laugh, “That’s if you can win the lawsuit against me after this!”.

Before she could finish her sentence, with a flick of her wrist, the hot water rushed toward Dolores.

Dolores was not stupid enough to let herself be splashed by the hot water without dodging it, but her sudden movements seemed to affect the wound on her knees. Her body tilted to one side and eventually crashed to the ground. The hot water settled on the ground and only wet the side of her skirt. She was able to escape her fate of being burned.

“What’s happening now?” suddenly, a cold voice broke the silence. Some of the onlookers gathered around her gave way immediately.

Helen stood next to Matthew and for a moment looked at Dolores. However, she said nothing.

No one knew of the connection between Dolores and Matthew, but she knew it well.

She couldn’t say anything on anyone’s behalf because it was the only way to keep her distance from the core of the ordeal.

Sheryl looked at Helen and felt very secure in her situation.

Since she had Helen’s backing, she had nothing to fear.

Besides, Dolores was only a newcomer to this venture.

“She poured some tea on me on purpose, and didn’t even apologize. I got mad, so I retaliated and poured some tea on her.”

Matthew peered down at the embarrassed figure on the floor and had an ambiguous expression on his face. He asked sternly, “Is that true?”

Dolores tried to get up from the floor, but due to the immense pain in her knees, every time she was about to get up, she stumbled back to the floor. Just as she was about to fall again, a strong hand grabbed her arm. With a jerk, she was enveloped in a warm embrace.

Matthew had her around his waist and she could feel the tender softness of his skin. It was as if the moment he exerted some force on her palms, her spine would immediately snap.

Yet, with a strange feeling clouding his heart, he didn’t feel like letting go.

Dolores felt like she had just escaped from a close situation. She couldn’t help but let out a long, deep sigh. Why was she having such bad luck lately?

Last time she was pushed by Matthew and fell, this time she ended up falling once again.

“Can you stand up?” asked Matthew.

Dolores tried to move her legs and replied, “I can.”

Both the viewers and Sheryl were stunned at what they were seeing.

Based on her understanding of Matthew’s personality, she supposedly would not lend a hand in this type of situation.

Everyone was directing glances at Helen as if they were dying to know the identity of this woman.

Dolores didn’t seem particularly remarkable, so they didn’t understand why she could capture Mr. Nelson’s attention.

“If the matter is settled, everyone should disperse.” Helen wanted this ordeal to end as soon as possible. Matthew’s reaction to this incident was beyond her expectations.

He had promised not to expose her true identity, but he was embracing her in public without any reservations. What would the other employees think of this?

Helen looked at Sheryl vehemently, as if to blame her for this unexpected turn of events.

“Mr. Nelson, it’s meeting time,” Helen whispered in his ear.

Matthew loosened his grip on Dolores and stood in the tea room doorway. His gaze was very cold. He was carefully scanning the cluttered tearoom and suddenly growled, “Abbott!” Abbott nodded immediately.

“Show me the surveillance camera footage.” He turned away after saying that. He also ordered Helen, “Delay the meeting for half an hour.”

When Sheryl heard that, she became strangely anxious. “Miss White…” Helen gave her a piercing look, which successfully shut her up.

Then Helen approached Matthew and reminded him, “Mr. Nelson, the meeting has already started. Everyone is waiting for you to start the meeting. It would be bad to delay…”.

Matthew continued to maintain an expression of indifference on his face. He just stared at her without any emotion.

However, Helen could not continue with her argument, “I will do as you say.”

However, Sheryl’s heart was racing rapidly. If the surveillance camera footage was revealed, everyone would know that she was to blame for Dolores accidentally spilling the tea water on her body.

She would be exposed as the instigator of things. “Miss White …”
