Unforgettable love

Chapter 73

Chapter 73:

Matthew readjusted his expression, “Since you’re not upset, come back now.”

Dolores’ hands at her side clenched tightly. She asked with a big mess inside her heart, “Can you tell me why you are doing this?”

Did he know that what he was doing was actually saying ‘I love you’?

She knew Matthew would never like a woman like her, but she couldn’t understand his actions.

She couldn’t find a single explanation.

Matthew stood up.

Why?

Matthew didn’t know why either; he just knew he wanted her to go back to where she came from: “You were my mother’s choice. I have to live up to the expectations of the departed.” Dolores wanted to laugh, but she couldn’t.

She had no idea what kind of expression she should make right now, whether it was one of joy or disgust.

“So, just because I was the one your mother chose, you want me to come back?” Dolores was speechless; she didn’t know why she expected his negative response.

Matthew turned around, looking back, hiding the expression on his face from the light refracted by the windows, and nodded weakly.

It was the most expected answer.

But she was disappointed.

He smiled bitterly, “Do you think I’m suitable for that place? Besides, aren’t you engaged to Maria Herbert, now you’re teasing me or playing games with me, is that funny?”

Matthew’s expression suddenly tightened, like a bowstring being drawn taut.

He had been deliberately ignoring that thing, which was that Dolores had been married before and had also given birth.

He did not want to mention or think about this matter; since she had now said it aloud, he had to face it.noveldrama

“I am not going to marry Maria. As for your position, nothing is inappropriate,” he said.

Dolores managed to squeeze out a smile, “Nothing is inappropriate? Do you mean it?”

Matthew turned around, looking at her, “You are not a pure woman, nor am I a good man. We are equals; we should not dislike each other.”

She already knew that; she didn’t understand why it hurt her more to hear it from Matthew’s own words.

He was a normal man, after all. Mary had been with him for so long that it would be strange if nothing had happened.

She knew that.

She understood it, too.

She just didn’t know why she felt bad knowing he’d slept with another woman.

“I’m going back for today.” He came by today to tell her about it.

“Oh.” Dolores looked away, not looking at him and pretending to be calm.

Buzz buzz buzz…

Dolores’ phone on the table suddenly buzzed. It was her son’s name and she picked it up.

“Samuel.”

“Mom, can you pick me up from school today?” Samuel Flores asked.

“Of course.” There was nothing more important than her son. She glanced at the clock on the table, “When do you want me to come over?”

“Can you come now?”

“Sure.”

“I’ll wait for you then.”

“Okay.”

She waited for him to hang up first and then she hung up. She packed up her files and drawing paper, preparing to leave. And then she realized that Matthew, who was behind her, hadn’t left.

“You’re leaving?”

“Yes.”

Dolores pursed her lips, “My son wants me to come pick him up.”

Matthew just listened to her, remembering her face of hostility toward him, and asked, “Did you speak ill of me to him?”

Dolores was confused, “Talk bad about you?”.

“You didn’t tell me why the boy was so hostile toward me?”. Dolores understood now.

But she refused to answer, deliberately changing the subject, “Don’t you have a flight to go on? I’m leaving too.”

She couldn’t tell him that Samuel had seen Matthew forcibly kissing her.

She headed for the door, looking back at him, “Aren’t you leaving?”

It was clear she was deliberately changing the subject, but Matthew didn’t expose her, leaving beside her as he also asked nonchalantly, “What college is your son at?”

“AC College.”

AC University?

Her eyes twitched; she knew that kid was smart. Since the last time he faked a kidnapping, it was evident that he was very thoughtful and action-oriented, knowing how to use his advantage of being a child to attract sympathy from others to achieve his goals.

There weren’t many five-year-olds who could pull off this kind of cunning.

Although she knew he was smart, she never expected him to enroll there at such a young age.

Dolores felt very proud when they talked about her son: “He is very smart, he always looks like an adult, taking care of his sister”.

When she talked about her son, she felt as if her face was illuminated.

She was proud of her son.

Matthew scoffed as he walked to his car.

If he said he had no feelings for her, he would be lying.

He was in his early 30s; most people had a child by that age.

Now that he had to listen to his wife describe how smart and knowledgeable the child she had with another man was, it was hard for him to feel happy.

Dolores felt it was very rare.

Like most things he did, no one ever understood what the purpose behind it was.

Dolores didn’t think too much about it, but just walked to her car.

It didn’t take her long to reach her son’s school. Samuel was already outside the classroom, waiting at the school entrance.

Dolores parked her car, got out of it and walked towards him.

“Mommy!” called Samuel happily when he saw Dolores.

The guard only opened the gate to let Samuel out when he saw Dolores approaching.

Dolores held out her hand, “Why are you here?”

Although Samuel passed the AC University exam, he only had three days of school a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, due to his young age. Today was Tuesday.

“I came to ask my teacher for advice.” Samuel said earnestly.

“I really should treat your teacher when time permits, your teacher treats you very well.” Dolores thought, Should she call and ask if the professor was free today to have dinner together?

“Is your teacher still in?” asked Dolores.

“No, he left. He said he had something to do.”

Dolores dismissed the idea, hugged her son to the car and helped him buckle his seat belt.

Dolores drove home and happened to run into Simona Flores and Jessica Lennon returning from the mall.

Dolores hurried out of the car to help carry Jessica’s things.

“Mom, Mom!” Simona was thrilled to see her mother and held out two little arms, wanting Dolores to hug her.

“I’ll hug you inside the house.”

“No.” Simona hugged Dolores’ leg, not letting go. She really wanted that hug.

Jessica shook her head, saying, “You should hug her.” Jessica grabbed Dolores’ things.

“Simona is an ingrate. Her eyes are fixed on her mother and not her grandmother.”

“Grandma, you have me.” Samuel reached out to hold Jessica’s hand.

“Samuel knows best.” Jessica laughed.

Simona didn’t mind at all, hugging Dolores’ shoulder and enjoying her mother’s embrace.

It was inevitable to come in contact with germs when going outside.

“Mommy, I want to eat pudding.” Simona tilted her head up, widening her big, bright eyes, longing for Dolores’ cuddle.

“Okay.” Dolores responded with a laugh.

After washing her daughter’s hands, she led her into the living room and took some pudding out of the freezer.

Simona really was a glutton. As long as she had something to eat, she would stay quiet.

Dolores let Samuel take care of her sister and went into the kitchen to prepare dinner with Jessica.

“Mom, why did you make a marriage contract with Mrs. Nelson back then?”

This was something she was always curious about but had never had the opportunity to ask.

Since Matthew had brought it up again, Dolores was anxious to know.
