Chapter 72
Chapter 72:.
However, the person behind her was not the one she expected. And even more so, someone who was outside of her expectations.
“Why are you here?” Dolores Flores clenched the pen in her hand unconsciously.
Matthew Nelson glanced around the office. It was decorated with a white theme, representing simplicity and generosity.
“So this is your place of business?” Matthew walked over to the French windows and looked outside.
Dolores put down her pencil and stood up, “I asked you something.”
Matthew turned around looking at her and sneered, “I’m here, just to see you, of course.”
Dolores had her hand behind her back, gripping the edge of the table. She was looking straight at him, trying to see through him.
What did she really want?
But she couldn’t see anything.
“Have you met with Mrs. William?” he asked in an affirmative tone.
She couldn’t think of anyone else who would force her to go back.
Matthew walked over, pulled the chair up behind her and sat down. “Yes.” She answered frankly.

“Why?” roared Dolores.
She could think of no reason why he would do this!
“No reason.” Matthew grabbed Dolores’ wrist, pulling her down and letting her sit on his lap. Dolores refused and tried to free herself from his grip.
“I’m hurt.”
“What does you being hurt have to do with me?” said Dolores imperiously.
Matthew sighed, “Are you curious as to what I gave Mrs. William?”
Dolores was curious as to what it was that could make Mistress William break her own rules.
“What did you give her?” Dolores asked.
“Since you joined the LEO Corporation, you should have heard about her husband, Mr. William, right?” Matthew stroked Dolores’ back, trying to calm her down.
Dolores nodded, “I heard that the couple was very loving. Only Lord William passed away too soon, and his wife was still young at the time. But she didn’t remarry for him.”
“Then do you know what her husband, Lord William, did for a living?” Matthew had managed to take Dolores’s mind away and distract her attention.
Dolores shook her head as this was beyond her knowledge.
Matthew wrapped his arm around Dolores’ waist and forced her to sit up. Dolores struggled reluctantly, as Matthew murmured, “It hurts, can you be a little more obedient?”.
Dolores felt aggrieved – didn’t he know that this action was unpleasant?
Wasn’t it very intimate for them to behave like this?
Why did it always have to be like this?
“Mr. William was a jewelry designer.” Matthew said.
Dolores raised her eyebrows and was surprised at Mr. William’s identity as a jewelry designer.
“But what does this have to do with what he gave Mrs. William?”. Dolores couldn’t understand.
“When Mrs. William met William, she was still an unknown fashion designer. It was a fashion conference, and it was the first time Mrs. William’s design was being staged. Coincidentally, Mr. William had also attended that fashion conference…”
“So, did they meet?” Dolores was able to imagine the scene at that moment, “It would be very romantic, wouldn’t it?”.
She felt a pang of envy. When she was young, she too had longed for love, but had missed her chance.
Now, she was just a single mother.
Matthew had noticed Dolores’ emotional changes and hugged her tighter around the waist,
“They had met, but it wasn’t romantic. I’d say it was rather awkward…”noveldrama
Dolores frowned, “Did something happen?”
“Yes. Someone reported that Mrs. William was plagiarizing other people’s work…”
“Impossible!” Dolores was confident in Mrs. William’s character, as well as her ability.
She would never plagiarize!
Matthew silently looked at her angry look, “I wasn’t talking about you, why are you getting agitated?”
Dolores calmed down as she was too nervous now, “I simply could not believe that Mrs. William would plagiarize.”
“Indeed, she…” Matthew had noticed that Dolores was frowning, gasping as at any moment she was going to burst out in anger.
“Her design bore the same name as a well-known necklace, but Mrs. William was completely unfamiliar with that necklace. And more coincidentally, it was the same name as well as the same source of inspiration, just a different design.” Matthew picked a lock of hair from Dolores’ ear, fiddling with his fingertips, and said quietly, “Would this be fate?” Indeed, it was a strange coincidence.
Only Dolores couldn’t understand, how could they know they had the same inspiration?
“Silly.” Matthew pinched Dolores’ cheek. Then Dolores realized that since they had the same name, they had to look into it. So when the two met, they knew they had the same source of inspiration and named their design the same.”
“You’re not that dumb.” Matthew smirked.
Dolores grimaced. Did his words imply that she was stupid?
“So, you gave Mrs. William the necklace?” Dolores guessed.
Matthew nodded.
“Why was the necklace with you?”
The necklace was bought by a gentleman at auction and given to his wife.
He was not short of money, as he was a businessman with plenty of resources.
Shortly after Mr. William passed away, Mrs. William searched everywhere for the necklace. Although she knew who had the necklace, the man did not want to sell it.
The man would not sell it no matter how much Mrs. William offered.
Coincidentally, that businessman had business dealings with Matthew.
Dolores understood that Matthew had given something that Mrs. William had always wanted. So Mrs. William agreed to open a branch.
Dolores soon realized that she was distracted by Matthew.
She didn’t wonder what he had given Mrs. William.
Instead, why did Matthew want her to return to his country?
What was in it for him?
What did he really want?
Dolores realized then that she was sitting on his lap unconsciously as they talked.
She jumped to her feet, glaring at Matthew, “What is your intention?”
He felt out of place after she stood up. He looked at Dolores, “What intention could I have but to bring you?”
“Why me?”
“Why didn’t you want to come back?” Matthew changed to a soft tone, “Or is there something that saddens you?”
“No!” replied Dolores instinctively.
“Then why are you afraid to come back?”
“Who’s afraid?”
Matthew then scoffed, “Then why are you getting so upset?” Dolores found that she had been struck dumb by him.
She didn’t want to admit that this man could alter her mind. Dolores pretended that she didn’t care about anything and said, “When have I ever gotten upset?”
