Chapter 79
Chapter 79:.
A face, which was like this man’s, quickly appeared in Dolores’ mind. When she had the car accident, it was this man who had run towards her driving the truck.
She still remembered the thrilling scene clearly and her heart still fluttered with fear every time she thought about the accident. This was also the reason she could still remember it clearly.
At that time, the police came to the conclusion that the car accident had been caused by the truck’s failure after investigation.
The cab driver was killed and she herself was injured in that accident.
Although the truck driver was not primarily responsible for the accident, he should bear the relative responsibility.
Since she was injured and taken to a foreign country by Sampson at the time, she was unclear as to the follow-up.
Although the cause was brake failure, that man, a driver, had actually run into the other man’s car without thinking about reducing the damage.
This point alone was enough to leave him with a bad impression.
But he was curious as to why that kind of driver could still drive a cab.
“Ma’am, are you going to take the cab?” the man asked again, seeming unimpressed with Dolores.
Dolores made a long face and said in a cold voice, “Can people like you be cab drivers?”
“Oh, what do you mean?” Terry Holmes felt strange. He was just a cab driver. It was fine if he didn’t want to take the cab, but why was he talking rudely to her?
Dolores didn’t want to haggle over the past, as she and the children were fine now. However, she detested that kind of person very much.
Dolores ignored him and kept walking down the road.
Terry followed her driving the car, “Yuck, what did you mean just now? Please clarify. I don’t know you, don’t you think it’s rude to comment on a person casually?”.
Dolores furrowed her eyebrows. She didn’t want to make a fuss about the past, but why was he bothering her now?
She paused and said, “I don’t want to bring up the past. Please don’t follow me, okay?”.
After finishing the words, Dolores walked away.
Terry slammed on the brakes and watched Dolores walk away with a stunned look on his face.
Judging by her words, she apparently knew him. However, he did not remember her.
Moreover, her attitude and angry look showed that she knew him.
Could it be that she was an acquaintance of his older brother who had died?
Terry gritted his teeth hard and drove the car slowly to follow Dolores.
He wanted to find out what was going on.
Dolores hailed a cab and then went to her tent.
She didn’t realize that someone was following her.
Dolores had seen the location plan as well as the store decoration, now she was coming to make an on-site investigation. Actually, the store decoration project was almost finished.noveldrama
“Lola.” Theresa approached and handed him an architectural drawing.
The store was located in an affluent area of B-town. Although Mrs. William decided to establish this branch store under someone’s instruction, the LEO Corporation was her career and by no means would she treat it perfunctorily.
She had conducted market research and had thought carefully about the location and décor of the store.
“All the stuff here is custom, so it may be delivered a little later. But it won’t be too late. Approximately all things will be delivered to the store next week.”
Dolores nodded, “Thanks for your effort. It must be hard for you.” All the stuff here was basically arranged by Theresa.
“It’s not hard.” Theresa smiled.
When she was turned down by LEO back then, it was Dolores who gave her the opportunity to stay with the company.
Even though she was now only Dolores’ assistant, she had learned a lot.
Besides, Dolores was very kind to her. She had helped her a lot and had taught her a lot without any reservations.
“You must be feeling fatigued after the long trip. Go back and rest. I will take care of the matter here.”
Dolores pondered for a while and replied, “All right. I’ll go back first. Call me if there are any problems.”
The two children had just arrived in an unfamiliar place, and Dolores worried that they might feel unaccustomed.
Dolores left the tent. Since she had just returned to the country, she did not yet have a car and could only travel on foot or by cab. She pulled over to the side of the road and waited for a cab.
Terry, who had followed her here, started the car when he saw her alone at the roadside and stopped in front of her.
“Ma’am, do you know my older brother?”
When Dolores saw his face again, her face immediately darkened. Was this person following her?
“What are you talking about?” Dolores said with distaste.
She had just returned to the city, but she had encountered such a noisy person.
Besides, this person was following her!
How could she be in a good mood after experiencing this?
Terry was not bothered by Dolores’ attitude. Instead, he patiently explained to her, “You acted as if you knew me just now. But I’m sure I didn’t see you. The one you mentioned was definitely not me and I assumed you might be mentioning my brother. He died six years ago and they said he died by suicide. But I found out that wasn’t true.” Dolores took a step back, “Your brother?” She felt very confused at that moment.
Did he die?
Had the truck driver who crashed into her died?
Fearing that Dolores wouldn’t believe him, Terry pulled out his wallet, in which was a group photo of him and his older brother. He pulled out the photo and handed it to Dolores, “Look. The one on the right is me, and the one on the left is my older brother.”
Dolores reached out to take the photo. She looked at the photo and then at Terry.
Terry and her brother looked quite alike. Dolores thought carefully again and concluded that the truck driver looked more like Terry’s brother.
“And your brother had died?” asked Dolores in an unbelievable tone.
Terry’s expression tightened at the mention of his dead brother. He nodded gravely, “He had uremia and the treatment required a large sum of money. Our family didn’t have much money, so curing him was a forlorn hope. However, one day he posted on his status ‘Now I have money’ and attached a photo with a few words ‘I am rich’. Yet such an optimistic person suddenly committed suicide – don’t you think that’s strange?”
He had been looking into this matter but had not found any convincing evidence.
Dolores’ reaction gave him hope.
“It’s very strange that he committed suicide after publishing the texts in which he said he was rich.” By rights, having money meant that he had the hope of being cured and, therefore, he must have the hope of living. Why did he decide to commit suicide?
This was really puzzling.
However, this had nothing to do with her. She handed the photo back to Terry and said, “I’m sorry. But this has nothing to do with me.”
Terry took the photo and put it back in his pocket. Knowing that this matter could not be accomplished hastily, he said, “Are you waiting for a cab? I can give you a ride.”
Dolores declined, “No need.”
“Aren’t you waiting for a cab since you’re standing by the side of the road?” Dolores was still standing motionless.
“I’m not a bad guy and I won’t charge you much either.” said Terry sincerely.
Dolores hesitated for a while. Then she opened the door and got into the car, as she thought he didn’t seem like a bad guy.
Terry asked, “What is your destination?”.
Dolores replied, “Golden Bay.”
Terry didn’t mention about his brother again; instead, he made a self-introduction, “My name is Terry Holmes. You can just call me Terry.”
Sensing that he was overzealous, Dolores ignored his words.
“Ahem, I hope I didn’t offend you.” Terry finally realized it was inappropriate to talk too much since it was their first meeting. But he wanted to make a good impression on Dolores, so he could find out the quarrels between her and her brother, as well as why she was so furious just now.
It took them only five or six minutes to reach Dolores’ destination.
Dolores paid the bill and got out of the car.
Terry stopped her and asked, “Can I be friends with you?”
“We don’t know each other that well. And I’m sorry, I don’t like to make friends.” Dolores refused without hesitation.
But Terry didn’t give up. He pushed the door and got out of the car. But he was stopped when he tried to chase Dolores, “What are you doing, do you know her identity?”
“Who are you?” Terry stared at the man blocking his way.
“My identity doesn’t matter. What matters is that you can’t have immoderate ambitions towards her. Remember that?” warned Abbott.
Dolores turned at the sound of Abbott’s voice and her face grew even more grim.
“Miss Flores.” Abbott quickly changed his expression and turned to her with a smile, “Mr. Nelson would like to see you.”
